Fun day making some soap

Rawenergy Raw Energy Blog

Today I made a block of soap with a friend.
These are the ingredients I used:

500g Olive Oil
300g Coconut Oil
200g Palm Oil
142g Lye
380ml Distilled water
1 tablespoon of Vitamin E oil
1 tablespoon of 100% pure bergamot essential oil
Rose dried flowers

Now I have to wait for 24 hours to get it out of it’s mould.

These are the ingredients:

I then start to add the ingredients together. You need to be careful when working with lye as it can burn your skin. So you want to use goggles, and apron and cover your hand.

ALWAYS ADD lye to the other ingredients never the opposite otherwise it might cause some reaction and jump out of the bowl.

In this case I progressively added lye to water and mixed it. Be careful this is causing a reaction and makes the mix turn very hot. Once the two ingredients are mixed let them cool down until they reach 43 Celsius degrees.

In the meantime liquify coconut and palm oil on very slow heat. You don’t want them to boil. Pour the mix in a bowl and add the olive oil.

The tricky part is now to let the two mixes (water+lye and oils) to reach the same temperature of 43 celsius degrees in order to amalgamate them together.

Ideally you want to had 2 thermometres one in each bowl.

Once the desired temperature is reached add the water+lye mix to the oil mix (remember ALWAYS add the lye or lye mix to another never the opposite).

Start mixing with a handblender by giving a few short burst of 4 seconds each until the mix becomes more solid as if it was a custard.

Add then the essential oil, the vitamin E oil and the dried flowers.
